Corporate Information
HISDESAT Servicios Estrategicos S.A. was set up in 2001 as the main commitment of the Spanish Ministry
of Defence and the company HISPASAT, for the secure communications market for satellites in military X and
Ka bands.
At a later date the main companies in the Spanish aerospace sector joined this initial commitment as shareholders along with manufacturers of the different satellite units and of the terrestrial sector that make up the National Program of Governmental Communications by satellite: EADS CASA Space, INDRA Space and SENER.
The participation of the Ministry of Defence is represented through the public sector aerospace company Ingeniería y Servicios Aeroespaciales S.A. (INSA) which totally belongs to the National Institute of Técnicas Aeroespaciales (INTA).
Additionally, HISDESAT, owns 44% of a joint venture called XTAR LLC along with the North American company Loral Space & Communications, which owns 56% of the capital.
XTAR LLC, owns the XTAR-EUR satellite and its main objective is the provision of communications services by satellite to the North American government based on the XTAR and SPAINSAT satellites.
