take more than 100 images daily
of up to one metre in resolution,
both day and night and regardless
of weather conditions. It has been
designed to cover an area of over
300,000 square kilometres per
day and is configured to orbit the
Earth fifteen times daily at a height
of 514 kilometres and a velocity of
seven kilometres per second. Given
its slightly inclined quasi-polar or-
bit, PAZ will cover the entire globe
with an average revisit time of 24
hours.
The satellite weighs around
1,400kg and is 5 metres high with
a diameter of 2.4 metres. The ra-
dar has been designed to be highly
flexible and is capable of operating
in a large number of configura-
tions, thereby permitting the se-
lection of image features. It has
an image memory of 256 GB and
the capacity to transmit images at
300 Mbits/s on X-band.
Hisdesat is responsible for the
launch and commercial exploita-
tion of both satellites of the obser-
vation system, in collaboration with
INTA, which will provide the ground
segment.
