SpainSat’s most innovative element is the IRMA antenna, which was developed
wholly in Spain and which protects secure communications from interference.
Other parts of the satellite have also been developed and manufactured by the
Spanish aerospace industry.
Spain possesses The manufacture of this new generation of satellites has afforded the
Spanish aerospace industry greater participation, obtaining returns of
advanced high technological value.
Practically all Spanish companies associated with aerospace have par-
communication ticipated or are currently participating in the various projects, meeting
technical excellence criteria and often competing with international
satellite suppliers. These programmes have encouraged the generation of new
activities in future sectors, and created a number of high-tech jobs,
technology allowing Spain to join the handful of countries to have access to advan-
ced communication satellite technology.
