Hisdesat presents the satellite PAZ
01/06/2011
-The satellite will be ready for launch in 2013.
-Its applications are varied: security, defense, environmental monitoring and assessment of natural disasters, among others.
Madrid, June 1, 2011. – The Spanish company of government services by satellite, Hisdesat, announces that on June 7 satellite will present in Madrid the satellite PAZ, in a ceremony to be conducted by the Minister for Defence, Carme Chacón Piqueras, Secretary of State for Defence, Constantino Mendez and Secretary General of Industry, Teresa Santero.
As part of the National Earth Observation Program by Satellite (PNOTS) created by the Ministries of Defense and Industry, Trade and Tourism in 2007, Hisdesat was commissioned to develop a system of earth observation technology called synthetic aperture radar PAZ , designed to meet the operational requirements primarily on security, defense applications but also with civilian use in the field of high-resolution observation. The PNOT is also composed of another satellite with optical technology called INGENIO, intended primarily to serve civilian purposes. With two operational satellites will have the highest level of technology to address multiple applications such as environmental monitoring, crop study, high-resolution mapping, disaster prevention and natural disasters, pollution, military operations, safety and intelligence, illegal immigration and urban studies, and so on.
“In an industry as complex which requires large investments, public-private collaboration in such projects as innovative and sophisticated, is essential for the successful completion thereof. PAZ is a good example of this type of collaboration and careful planning will allow access to the most advanced space technology for imaging, “said Roberto Lopez, CEO of Hisdesat.
HISDESAT hired the design and manufacture of satellite CASA ESPACIO at the end of 2007, which led to the Spanish space industry an unprecedented challenge to take the development of a large satellite and complexity. HISDESAT is the owner, operator and operator of PAZ satellite, which will provide accurate information to multiple applications from its polar orbit around Earth. The satellite launch, scheduled for 2013, has been entrusted to DNPER Russian launcher.
Since its inception, the PAZ satellite manufacturing industry is generating significant returns of Spanish space investments to the companies involved, enabling them to develop new capabilities that will enhance their competitiveness in the global market space. This new satellite will also substantially improve the position of our country within the European program for global monitoring of environment and security GMES (Global Monitoring and Environmental Security), the main initiative in the field of Earth observation led the Union and the European Space Agency (ESA).
The satellite
The Satellite PAZ is intended not only to meet the needs of security and defense, but also other civil in nature, can take over 100 images per day, up to one meter resolution, and day and night regardless of weather conditions . Designed for a mission of five and a half years, will cover an area of more than 300,000 square kilometers per day. Be prepared to fifteen flights daily to Earth at an altitude of 514 km and a speed of seven kilometers per second. Given its near-polar orbit slightly inclined, PAZ cover the entire globe with a media time of 24 hours of revisit .
Its estimated weight is 1400 kg., Is 5 m. tall and is 2.4 m. in diameter. The radar has been developed very flexible, capable of operating in a number of settings that allow you to choose the imaging performance. It has an image memory of 256 GB and a transmission capacity of the same ground of 300 Mbit / s X-Band.
Government Services by satellite
Hisdesat features an innovative generation of satellites to improve and provide greater flexibility and security to secure satellite communications in the military X and Ka bands. This government communications system consists of two satellites and a third in development: SpainSat, XTAR-Eur and HisNorSat. These satellites provide communications coverage in more than two thirds of the Earth Hisdesat placing in a leadership position as a global satellite government services.
Furthermore, the aforementioned system Earth Observation, which will use the two technologies, optics and radar, through a Hisdesat joit Canadian-based venture, is developing a new system of maritime traffic information by satellite (AIS), based on a constellation of 12 microsatellites in low polar and equatorial orbits, which allow for the updating of the location of all vessels in the world every 60 minutes. This is a pioneering project in the world and can be used for multiple applications such as maritime traffic control, salvage and rescue, surveillance and security, pollution and so on.
About Hisdesat
Hisdesat was founded in 2001 as operator of government services by satellite to act primarily in the areas of defense, security, intelligence and foreign affairs. Since 2005, the company provides secure satellite communications to government agencies of different countries and is currently developing new satellites in two areas: Earth Observation and Information of the worldwide maritime traffic by satellite (AIS).
